YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Life This concentration hack will increase your productivity in 2019 By You Magazine - January 7, 2019 As soon as we enter a new year, most of us create new promises to uphold and resolutions to start working towards in order to become the best and healthiest versions of ourselves. And while its great (and sometimes necessary) to set yourself goals, it can be difficult to know how exactly to become more productive in order to achieve them. Getty Images Luckily, there’s one clever hack that can help us all increase our productivity and smash those goals for 2019 – it’s a method called The Pomodoro Technique. Never heard of it? Well now is the time to become familiar with it. The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method founded and developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. In Cirillo’s own words, it ‘teaches you to work with time, instead of struggling against it’ and people have been raving about it on social media for being simple yet incredibly effective. So how does it work? The aim of the technique – named after a pomodoro tomato-shaped kitchen timer Cirillo used while he was at university – is to break your time up into manageable 25-minute segments so that it becomes easier to face – and complete – any task you have to do. Getty Images How to use The Pomodoro Technique Step 1: Select a task that you’d like to get done; for example, writing/editing a new CV and cover letter or filling out an important form. Step 2: Set your timer to 25 minutes. If you don’t have an old-school timer, use your smartphone. Step 3: Work on your task for the next 25 minutes until the timer goes off. Step 4: When the timer rings, draw a tick on a piece of paper and take a short break. Tea run, perhaps? Step 5: Repeat this process until you’ve got four ticks on your piece of paper and then take a longer break, for around 20 minutes. Your brain will then use this time to assimilate new information and rest before you begin the next round of work. Step 6: Keep going until your task is complete. Here’s a video to demonstrate how… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFW3Ld7JO0w As stated on Cirillo’s website: ‘Over 2 million people have already used the Pomodoro Technique to transform their lives, making them more productive, more focused and even smarter.’ As well as increasing your productivity, The Pomodoro Technique is also a great way to cut down on distractions such as wasting time scrolling on social media. So what are you waiting for?
