YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Celebrity 6 things you didn’ t spot at the Golden Globes 2019 By You Magazine - January 7, 2019 The 2019 award season has officially begun with the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards kicking things off last night and boy, was it a memorable ceremony. The show, which was hosted by Killing Eve‘s Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg, was attended by a star studded line-up of Hollywood guests including Olivia Coleman and Richard Madden, who held it down for the Brits with their big wins – Coleman for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture (The Favourite) and Madden for Best Actor in a Drama TV Series (Bodyguard). Rex Features But aside from the distribution of the all-important trophies, the show-stopping gowns and the powerful speeches – Bohemian Rhapsody‘s Rami Malek and If Beale Street Could Talk‘s Regina King were clear standouts – there were a few things you may have missed at the Golden Globes. To help you out, we’ve charted them below… Lady Gaga paid tribute to Judy Garland Whether it was intentional or not, Lady Gaga paid homage to Judy Garland – who starred in the 1954 version of A Star Is Born – with a stunning fashion statement. Unlike Garland, however, Gaga added some modern glam to the look with a diamond necklace from Tiffany & Co. and blue hair to match. Emma Stone apologised for her controversial role in Aloha Emma Stone made a public apology for portraying a character of Asian descent in the 2015 film, Aloha, during the award ceremony after host Sandra Oh made a joke about the role. Praising blockbuster hit Crazy Rich Asians, Oh said: ‘It is the first studio film with an Asian American lead since Ghost in the Shell and Aloha.’ The audience then burst into laughter, while Emma Stone is heard shouting ‘I’m sorry’ from her seat. Stone has previously addressed the controversy, telling News.com.au that the role made her ‘the butt of many jokes’ and explained: ‘I’ve learned on a macro level about the insane history of whitewashing in Hollywood and how prevalent the problem truly is. It’s ignited a conversation that’s important.’ Idris Elba finally might have hinted at being the next bond Just when we thought the Idris Elba Bond rumours had been laid to rest, the Luther star had us all second guessing once again at the Golden Globes. Teasing fans, Elba posed for a funny picture with Daniel Craig, who currently plays the famous British spy, which was later shared on social media by his fiancee Sabrina Dhowre. https://www.instagram.com/p/BsUa2Jclt3r/ In a cheeky caption, Dhowre wrote: ‘Not to add to the fire but….play nice guys ?’ Could this mean he’ll be the next Bond after all? We’ve still got our fingers crossed. Jameela Jamil wore jeans under her dress The Good Place actress Jameela Jamil was praised by fans on social media for wearing jeans under her gown as she attended the Golden Globes. The British star, who plays Tahani Al-Jamil on the hit NBC comedy, revealed the unusual but hilarious wardrobe combo to her followers on her way to the award ceremony by posting a video of herself in a car, explaining that it was too cold to rock the frock on its own. https://twitter.com/jameelajamil/status/1082035899523723264 ‘An experienced woman wears jeans under her Golden Globes gown because it’s forking COLD,’ she wrote in a Tweet before adding on Instagram: ‘Wearing jeans under my gown because I refuse to be cold for fashion.’ Lupita Nyong’ o’ s £32 shoes Forget brand names and haute couture, Lupita Nyong’o proved that bargain buys can look just as chick as designer gear on the red carpet. Well, when it comes to footwear at least. Rex Features The Black Panther star, who made it onto all the best dressed lists from the night (as always), stunned in a gorgeous custom-made sparkly gown but it was her choice in shoes that stole the limelight as she sported a pair of metallic heeled sandals from high-street store, Aldo. And what’s more? They only cost £32. Talk about looking Hollywood for less. Why Richard Madden’ s win was extra special Bodyguard‘s Richard Madden became the surprise winner of the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series/Drama award at the Golden Globes, beating the likes of Jason Bateman and Matthew Rhys for the title. #RichardMadden @_richardmadden gets his first #GoldenGlobes award – Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama – #Bodyguard. #DubaiOneTv #Dubai1AwardSeason #Dubai1GoldenGlobes pic.twitter.com/I5w7YtoPst - Dubai One (@DubaiOneTV) January 7, 2019 But the unexpected win was made extra special due to one thing – his parents were there with him. During his acceptance speech, the former Game of Thrones actor, who seemed taken aback by the award, thanked his mum and dad, saying: ‘Most importantly, I want to thank my friends and my family. Mum and dad, who flew all the way from Scotland, I wouldn’t be here without you!’ Aww, how lovely!
