The Hermes Birkin bag. The Chanel 2.55. The Fendi baguette. These are just a few of examples, and it’s fair to say one of the more recent additions to this bag hall of fame is the Dior Book Tote, which made its debut as part of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection. The Dior tote quickly rose to iconic status, having been snapped up by fashion editors, stylists and celebrities alike, and has since been released in countless fabrics and colours, as well as two more sizes. Dior Book Tote, £2,450, Dior Despite looking simple, it’s the exquisite craftsmanship that makes Dior’s Book Tote special – but it comes at a price. And that price is £2,450 to be exact, which is out of the price range of most of us mere mortals. However, if you love the look of the Dior tote, then H&M’s new bag might satisfy some of your longing – and it’s just £24.99. Jacquard-weave handbag, £24.99, H&M The jacquard-weave handbag features the same boxy tote shape, perfect for hauling everything from your gym kit to your lunch around – or indeed books. It also features a zipped inner compartment where you can keep your valuables. While the print is obviously slightly different from the Dior version, and of course you’re missing that all-important Christian Dior logo, the colour schemes and general vibe of the bags are certainly similar. And again, for a saving of £2,425, we can accept that the H&M bag doesn’t involve quite the level of craftmanship as the Dior bag (which takes 37 hours to make and includes 1,500,000 stitches).
