YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Food This key step will help you make the perfect gin and tonic By You Magazine - May 28, 2019 You may consider yourself a bit of gin and tonic expert by now, meaning you’ve been drinking it for so long that you’re a pro at making them. But what if we told you that you’ve been missing a crucial step this entire time? Getty Images According to qualified gin expert, David T Smith, there is only one way to achieve the ultimate G&T, and chances are you haven’t been including it when making yours – we certainly hadn’t before discovering his genius trick. So what is it? Well, David insists that you should always wait a few minutes to let the ice melt a little bit before you start drinking your G&T. This is because it will make the flavours taste a lot better, he explained during an interview with Good Housekeeping. ‘The final chill-factor comes from the use of ice which absorbs the heat of the drink, and this, in turn, is what turns the ice into water,’ he told the publication. ‘When the ice begins to melt; this not only makes the drink cooler but helps to marry all the flavours together.’ Getty Images We know, usually we’re told that you should never let the ice melt in your G&T but as David says, this is a complete misconception. In fact, the more ice to keep your glass cool, the better. So with that being said, if you fancy making yourself a new and improved G&T following David’s advice, why not try with Asda’s brand new fruity gins? The supermarket has added Spanish lemon and Spanish watermelon-flavoured gin to their alcohol shelves and they both sound absolutely delicious. Sold at £23 per 700ml bottle, the gins, made by Verano, come complete with colourful labelling; the colourless lemon flavoured gin is accompanied by bright yellow labels while the watermelon gin is actually pink with hot pink on the packaging to match. Race you to the tills!
