If you easily scare then look away now, because we’re about to unveil some pretty creepy locations. From secluded woodlands to eerie castles and ominous lakes, car rental brand Budget UK has compiled a list of spine-chilling destinations to visit with your friends this Halloween. We don’t know about you, but we’re so ready for fright night-style road trip. To make things extra spooky, each of the destinations on the list are only accessible by car meaning you most likely won’t be bumping into other visitors and instead be completely isolated there. Yes, we’re already getting chills too! The UK’ s most haunted woodlands The Forest of Rothiemurchus, Inverness-shire Getty Images This is home to the grave of the Chief of Clan Shaw whose spirit is said to challenge those who stray too deep into the forest. The forest is situated in the Cairngorms National Park, a three-hour drive from Edinburgh and accessible via the A9. Great Wood, Blickling, Norfolk Alamy Stock Photos This is where Bickling Estate resides, the former ancestral home of Anne Boleyn. Drive down the A140 to discover the misty forest and spooky woodland of eerie oak trees. During your journey, pass the haunted Mausoleum which is built in 1793 to commemorate the 2nd Earl of Buckingham. Wenlock Edge, Shropshire Getty Images This Shoprshire woodland is home to a renowned Ippikin Rock. Local legend tells of a renowned Knight named Ippikin, and his band of robbers who lived in a cave on Wenlock Edge. The group kept their ill-gotten gains in the cave and terrorised anyone who came near. Drivers can visit the historic location via the A458, which leads onto the B4368. The UK’ s most haunted castles Chillingham Castle, Northumberland Getty Images Coined ‘Britain’s most haunted castle’, Chillingham Castle has some of the country’s highest level of paranormal activity. Get there by car and look out for signs for the castle clearly marked on the A1 . Cawdor Castle, Nairn Alamy Stock Photos Haunted by a kidnapped heiress, this impressive fortress is situated in a small village near the coast which is only accessible by car. The castle can be reached by driving down the A9 and onto the B9006, where you’ll pass Culloden Battlefield as you make your way to your final destination. Berry Pomeroy Castle, Totnes Getty Images Tucked away in a deep wooded valley, this castle is haunted by two female ghosts; the White Lady and the Blue Lady. If you live in the South West, you can easily catch a sighting of them by driving just 10 minutes from Totnes via the A385. Alternative haunted attractions Pendle Hill, Lancashire Getty Images Home to a ’witch’s cottage’ from the 17th century, Pendle Hill is situated in the centre of idyllic countryside. Borley Rectory, Essex Getty Images Famously referred to as ‘the most haunted house in Britain’, ghost hunters should enter at their own peril. The nearest train station is over an hour’s walk to the destination, so travelling by car might be easier. Budget UK suggests following the A134 before joining the B1064 and venturing down some spooky lanes to the Rectory. Wharram Percy, North Yorkshire Getty Images This deserted medieval village has been abandoned for more than 500 years and has some seriously spooky history. Located on the western edge of the Chalk Wolds of North Yorkshire, it is about one mile south of Wharram-le-Street. Budget UK suggests following the B1248 Beverley to Malton road.
