YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Life How to clean your phone properly during the coronavirus outbreak By You Magazine - March 23, 2020 We’ve all heard that horrifying fact about our phones being seven times dirtier than a toilet seat, so now more than ever we should really be looking at keeping our mobile phones squeaky clean to avoid spreading germs and possibly coronavirus to one another. It’s been proven that coronavirus can last on surfaces such as metal, glass and plastic for up to nine days, so it’s crucial that we keep our phones as clean as possible to stop them from harbouring the virus. Alamy Abiding by the government’s advised rigorous hand-washing routine is an essential habit we must all adopt, but given that we pick up our phones on average 58 times a day (and that number is probably even higher for those now officially working from home), if you’re not going to clean your phone too, there’s almost no point in taking to the sink at all. But how do you properly disinfect an electronic device? To ensure you scrub your mobile phone efficiently and safely, consider the following tips. How to clean your phone Tip #1 First of all, unplug from the charger, turn off your device and remove the protective case if you have one. Tip #2 Apple and Google recommend using an alcohol wipe containing at least 55 per cent alcohol strength to be properly effective at removing bacteria and germs. Wipe over all sides of your phone plus the inside and outside of your protective case. Alamy Tip #3 Speaking of cases, if your phone is currently housed in a leather case, you may wish to consider swapping to a wipe clean-friendly plastic hard case, instead, as leather cases are known for being the grubbiest and harbouring the most germs. Tip #4 Don’t spray liquid cleaners directly onto your phone, but rather onto a soft cloth, like the ones that come with sunglasses, to wipe over your device. Tip #5 Invest in CASETiFY’s new UV Smartphone Sanitiser. Destroying 99.9 per cent of germs that live on our phone’s surface, the germ killing pod charges your phone at the same time and fits all smartphones. It costs £100 and comes with ten complimentary hygiene wipes to keep your phone as clean as possible. Even better, 100 per cent of the proceeds from the UV Smartphone Sanitiser will be donated to GlobalGiving’s Coronavirus Relief Fund, which is sending essential supplies, medical responders and food to communities in need during this crisis. Don’t forget to apply the same principles to all your handheld tech – iPads, tablets, Kindles, laptops, keyboards and TV remotes could all do with a good once-over every day.
