Still no older games :( Sony Leak Reveals New Details On PS5 Backwards Compatibility 30 September 2020 by Lara Jackson The PS5 may be behind its Xbox competitor when it comes to previous-gen games, but a new leak has reportedly revealed even more details on how it will – and won’t – run PS4 games. As reported by ComicBook, the source code for the PlayStation Store website gives users a look into what could happen when you try and play PS4 games on your shiny new PS5. According to the publication, messages in the source code warn players that some functionalities may not be available when playing a PS4 game on a PS5. Similarly, the following error message has also been spotted: ADVERT ADVERT “This PS4 game isn’t supported with your PS5’s current system software. We’re continuing to make more PS4 games playable on PS5. Update your PS5, and then try playing the game.” Credit: Sony With this being a leak and not wholly confirmed by Sony, it’s best to take the latter part of that quote with a grain of salt. That being said, it does seem to imply that Sony could roll out future PS5 updates which will enable more and more PS4 games to be playable on the system. Right now, Sony has stated that “99 percent” of PS4 games can be played on your PS5. Meanwhile, the newly-unveiled PlayStation Plus Collection will give PS Plus subscribers the opportunity to play a ton of PS4 classics on PS5, from day one. Confirming the news to Famitsu [translated by Siliconera], Sony top dog Jim Ryan admitted there’s no capability for PS5 to play PS1, PS2 or PS3 games.ADVERT ADVERT “We keep in mind the engineering specialized for the PS5, as we produced the device,” Ryan told the publication. While implementing that, we also focused our efforts on taking in the high-speed SSD and the new controller DualSense at the same time.
