Crash Bandicoot 4 Demo Announced But Gamers Aren’ t Happy 9 September 2020 by Lara Jackson Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is nearly here and Activision has just announced a free demo will be available this month. Coming on September 16, the demo will feature two levels for players to enjoy: Snow Way Out and Dino Dash. An “alternate timeline path,” featuring Snow Way Out from Dr. Neo Cortex’s perspective will also be playable. Sounds like good news right? Well…no. As is typical for Activision, the game demo will only be available for those who’ve pre-ordered the game, and players aren’t happy about the news.ADVERT ADVERT Credit: Activision The point of a game demo is widely appreciated to be a taster of the game to enable players to decide whether or not they want to purchase the full shebang. Unfortunately for games like Crash Bandicoot 4 and the recently-released Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2, demos have only been available for those who’ve already put down their cash. People have been sounding off on the decision across social media, with journalist Chris Scullion pointing out: “You don’t have to buy a cinema ticket before you get to see the trailer.” I thought the point of a demo was to help you decide whether you wanted to buy the game? Locking behind pre-orders seems a bit… weird. You don't have to buy a cinema ticket before you get to see the trailer https://t.co/0Qj4c5VNac- Chris Scullion (@scully1888) September 9, 2020 One Twitter user responded to PlayStation, raging: “If you buy the game you don’t need the demo. What the hell even is this? Are they tricking us into accepting early access as the new normal?”ADVERT ADVERT If you buy the game you don't need the demo. What the hell even is this? Its the same with game reviews, publishers would love reviews to dissapear [sic]” Surely you realise people that aren't committed to buying a game are more likely to result in a net loss of customers than net gain, otherwise everyone would be offering free demos.
