Tormented Souls Is A PS2-Inspired Survival Horror Creeping Onto PC & Console 10 August 2020 by Lara Jackson There’s no era of horror games quite as good as what the PlayStation 2 offered and we’ve sadly seen a decline in the survival horror genre over the years. However, upcoming new game Tormented Souls is aiming to change that, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Credit: PQube Limited Currently in development by Dual Effect and Abstract Digital, Tormented Souls takes its inspiration from games including Silent Hill, Alone in The Dark, Resident Evil and Clock Tower, making it the perfect title for those looking for more spooks in their life. The game follows Caroline Walker as she investigates the disappearance of twin girls at a place called Winterlake. Walker is met with foul play and ends up “waking in the dead of night, naked in a bathtub – and hooked up to some decrepit medical equipment.” According to the game’s official description, “Caroline must fight for her life as she explores the halls of an abandoned Mansion turned hospital.”ADVERT ADVERT Credit: PQube Limited Tormented Souls will also make use of the mechanics which made its forefathers so iconic, including fixed camera angles, puzzle-solving, along with intense psychological horror and gore. The page explains: “Tormented Souls deliberately sets out to draw inspiration from classic survival horror. From Resident Evil and Silent Hill, to Alone in the Dark – Tormented Souls is a modern take on the fixed-perspective adventure, offering a modernised control scheme and a more dynamic camera, while retaining everything that made those games so beloved by fans. Cleverly combine items to solve puzzles and use every resource available to explore the secrets of the Mansion and its grounds.”ADVERT ADVERT If that doesn’t whet your appetite, the Steam listing‘s accompanying screenshots and trailer should break you out in a cold sweat, and if this isn’t one of your most-anticipated releases of the year, then just hold onto your hat. Perhaps the best part of Tormented Souls is the platforms it’s coming to, as this is one indie game which will launching on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. The game is slated for a 2021 release.
