Activision is thinking about our hard drives. Call Of Duty Season 5 Will ‘ Shrink The Overall File Size Of The Game’ 4 August 2020 by Lara Jackson After what seems like an eternity Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare Season Five is nearly here, with the Powers That Be confirming its launch on August 5th. A brand new trailer for Season Five has officially landed, finally giving players confirmation of a number of rumours that have been swirling around the internet. However, it’s not the game itself that has angered gamers – it’s the file size. It’s become a big of a meme that CoD updates are incredibly big, and Season Five is no different. To allow the install on PlayStation 4, you’ll reportedly need to have around 90 GB of space on your hard drive. The actual game itself is a hefty 36 GB, which when you consider the games are now around 200 GB in size, is yet another massive blow.ADVERT ADVERT Credit: Activision Before you throw your console/PC out of the window, there may be light on the horizon. Modern Warfare product director Paul Haile took to Twitter to explain a little more about Season Five’s scale, confirming that the overall plan for CoD is to reduce its massive file size. “Season 5 is coming soon, and it’s big,” Haile says. “With the update, we’re including all the new content for the season as well as optimising our asset packs. This means the download will be big, but the overall size of the game will actually shrink on your consoles after you download the patch, even though we’re adding a bunch of new content for the season. its a priority for us to keep working on reducing the overall size of MW & WZ on your hard drives, but at the same time also delivering new seasons for everyone to enjoy. we'll continue to work on this and keep pushing space reductions out with future updates.- Paul Haile (@Tyrael) August 2, 2020 “It’s a priority for us to keep working on reducing the overall size of MW and WZ on your hard drives, but at the same time also delivering new seasons for everyone to enjoy.
