Preview Hands-On With Newly-Revealed Next-Gen Horror In Sound Mind 13 June 2020 by Lara Jackson Modus Games has just revealed a brand-new horror experience from the creators of the infamously terrifying mod, Nightmare House 2. First person horror, In Sound Mind, comes from the team at We Create Stuff, and GameByte had the opportunity to go hands-on with what’s already looking like one of the scariest titles of the next generation of gaming. Credit: Modus Games Before we dive into my time with the demo, In Sound Mind’s official description reads as follows: “From the creators of cult classic Nightmare House 2 comes an imaginative psychological horror experience that challenges your expectations and ushers you through the deepest corners of your mind. “As you awake in the corridors of an inexplicable building, you find the environment takes on a life of its own and leads you to discover a series of victims, all exposed to the same experimental chemical. In your search for answers, bizarre visions emerge and introduce a host of imposing horrors. With your sanity in question, you have no choice but to rely on your instinct…and a cat named Tonia.”ADVERT ADVERT Credit: Modus Games As a huge horror fan, I was incredibly excited to get to trial the PC demo and offer up some thoughts. I won’t be talking about story here, so don’t worry, you’re free from spoilers! In Sound Mind’s demo was roughly two hours in length. Gameplay-wise, In Sound Mind is a first person horror, and you’re forced to explore the deepest recesses of your mind as you solve puzzles, keep your torch in batteries and defeat enemies as you travel through abandoned areas with danger lurking around every corner. I’m keen to see the finished console product, and how well it’ll fair on the next-gen PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.ADVERT ADVERT What wasn’t so nice was what I was doing in the demo, which was a terrifically tense and deliciously chilling experience which I’d compare to the likes of Outlast and Alan Wake. Even the most innocuous of situations, like walking through corridors or exploring rooms, provided me with that full sense of “nope, nope, nope” that you only get from truly petrifying games. Already, In Sound Mind offers the claustrophobia and tension that makes for an unforgettable horror game. Considering what We Create Stuff crafted with Nightmare House 2, I’m definitely excited to see more of In Sound Mind. Check out the reveal trailer below! ADVERT ADVERT In Sound Mind is expected to launch early 2021, for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 and PC. Wishlist it now on Steam, where there’s also a free playable demo, available now!
