Call Of Duty Under Fire As Xbox Fans Report 80GB Update For Season 4 11 June 202011 June 2020 by Lara Jackson Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is under fire following the latest content drop. Season Four of MW has now officially launched – but players are already flooding Activision with complaints over the install size. Credit: Activision According to Xbox gamers, the latest update is clocking in at an eye-watering 80GB, meaning it’s basically the size of a whole new game. It’s such a problem for Xbox players, that “#80 GB” has been trending on Twitter for the last few hours. From the sounds of things, this isn’t actually what the file size is supposed to be – which explains why it’s only Xbox players who’ve been hit. Activision has confirmed there’s been an error somewhere down the line.ADVERT ADVERT Responding to the outrage, Activision’s tech support Twitter page has issued the following statement: “We’re actively investigating an issue for #ModernWarfare where some players on Xbox are seeing a larger than expected download size for today’s update. Stay tuned for updates.” We're actively investigating an issue for #ModernWarfare where some players on Xbox are seeing a larger than expected download size for today's update. Stay tuned for updates- Activision Support (@ATVIAssist) June 11, 2020 The statement has been met with criticism, as people complain not only of the file size, but also of the handling of the situation. One gamer pointed out that, by the time a fix is found, most players will probably have already downloaded the hefty patch. I mean most of us are already well into the download so a little late for that.- ModernWarzone (@ModernWarzone) June 11, 2020 I’m running 200mgbs and it’s still 90 minutes… it’s kind of heavy- Axel Medina (@axelmed4) June 11, 2020 Larger? Last month, production director Paul Haile spoke with USGamer about the problem, which is now becoming a huge bugbear for players. Haile told the publication: “Modern Warfare and Warzone are both massive experiences with tons of ways to play and new content being added regularly, and we are cognizant of the overall download size,ADVERT ADVERT “As a team we are committed to updating the game with new free content of course, but have also taken steps for overall footprint management, including a DLC pack management screen for console users. This allows players to pick and choose which DLC packs they want to keep, and remove the others to recover more space.” If you’ve yet to use the Modern Warfare data management screen, I highly recommend it if space is a problem for you! It will allow you to chop-and-change the content available to you, letting you cut out modes you don’t use (like the campaign you’ve probably now completed) in favour of new updates.
