HBD! 200 Million Copies Of Minecraft Have Been Sold Just In Time For 11th Birthday 18 May 202018 May 2020 by Lara Jackson Yesterday (May 17) saw the 11th birthday of the one and only Minecraft. The game’s original creator, Notch, released the alpha version of Minecraft on May 17, 2009, ahead of its 2011 full launch (yeah, I know this is a messy birthday, but hey, May 17 is generally considered the birthday of Minecraft, so let’s roll with it). The game has officially sold over 200 million copies worldwide, racking up 126 million active monthly players. What a milestone! Happy birthday Minecraft! from r/gaming As one of the biggest and most celebrated video games of all time, Minecraft’s birthday is obviously a pretty big deal, and the internet has been wishing the game the happiest of days.ADVERT ADVERT The Minecraft subreddit has been flooded with celebratory builds, including the lovely little message below, which comes complete with a Creeper cake. Today marks 11 years since Minecraft’s initial release date! Here’s a cute little build I did to celebrate from r/Minecraft Twitter was also flooded by thankful fans. One user tweeted: “Minecraft is great game in the world throughout history, is great way to make more strongly, survive and build with blocks, explore many adventures and play with friends together.” https://twitter.com/BetaBedrock/status/1261742634537635840 happy 11th birthday to my favorite Taurus in the entire world. @Minecraft shii it’s been my day one since forever. ? pic.twitter.com/crqfegydD1- coby (@ugligangboy) May 17, 2020 Over on the Mojang blog, the Minecraft team unveiled a brand-new look and logo for the company.ADVERT ADVERT The team writes: “Sound the annoyingly loud birthday alarm, because it’s Minecraft’s 11th birthday! To celebrate, we thought about eating a lot of block-shaped cake, like last year. “Then we figured, why not unveil a new name, a new logo, and the secret sauce that makes the entire machine run instead? While also eating a lot of cake? Much better! Let’s do that.” Mojang has now become Mojang Studios, a name change which comes with the shiny new logo you can see below.ADVERT ADVERT In 11 Years of celebrating the existence of Minecraft, there is now a NEW name & logo for the company. Mojang Studios! pic.twitter.com/VmSEUS0VtK- Minecraft News (@beta_mcpe1) May 17, 2020 Explaining the reasoning behind the rebrand, the blog explains: “While we grew very attached to the dragon/apple/candle/sewing machine sitting next to our name during our first decade of existence, the new logo is a perfect match for the next one. But we’re not here to tell you exactly what it is, or what it means. Just as with Minecraft, that’s up to you.” Hopefully we’ll be seeing some great things from the rebranded Mojang!
