Dan Goor and Michael Schur’s hit comedy has an unconventional history on our screens considering the show was originally cancelled in 2018. With fans up in arms that Season 5 could be the last, NBC came to the rescue and gave the Nine-Nine a new lease of life. According to Deadline, Brooklyn Nine-Nine will kick off its 13-episode Season 7 with a one-hour special on February 6, 2020.ADVERT ADVERT While we don’t know much about what Season 7 will involve, the fan-favourite Captain Holt has been demoted to patrolman. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Terry Crews explained, “Andre Braugher is an officer, he’s not a captain. I am the lieutenant, I am in his office. It’s so bizarre, I still don’t feel like it’s mine. We love to turn things on its ear. It’s so wild because we’re all changing and growing.” Credit: NBC As per usual, we expect Season 7’s American airdate to be followed by a UK release on Channel 4 and eventual arrival on Netflix. Elsewhere, fans might not know Brooklyn Nine-Nine nearly didn’t star Andy Samberg as the loveable Jake Peralta. As Screen Rant explains, the 41-year-old nearly passed up on Brooklyn Nine-Nine because he was tired after SNL. In 2013, Samberg told The Wrap, “I was not looking to do a TV series at all but I was a huge fan of Parks [and Rec], and I’d seen what these guys had done with Amy [Poehler].ADVERT ADVERT Credit: NBC He continued, “They came to me and said, ‘How would you feel about doing a series? This is the idea.’ And I was like, ‘Give me a couple of days to think about it,’ but I already knew I was going to say yes, because it was too good to pass up.” Although there is no single ‘main’ character in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Samberg is the closest to one. As the comedic detective that glues the department together, it’s hard to picture the hit series without Peralta. Thankfully, expect Jake to be front and centre when Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns.
