Troy Baker explains just how carefully Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann has curated the experience. ‘ There Is A Specific Way’ Naughty Dog Wants Us To Experience The Last Of Us Part 2 25 November 20194 October 2019 by Lara Jackson Fans of The Last of Us have been clamouring for more information on the game’s sequel, and Naughty Dog has finally answered our prayers with a release date for The Last of Us Part 2. Actor Troy Baker, who plays Joel in the games, spoke to GameByte and revealed just how careful the ND team – in particular director Neil Druckmann – has been in its execution of reveals. Credit: Naughty Dog In an exclusive interview during MCM Comic Con Scotland, Troy said: “There’s nothing that Neil [Druckmann] has shown, said or shared [about the game] that has not been carefully curated. ADVERT ADVERT “There’s no-one that cares more about you as the gamer, having the perfect experience, than him. Even to the point that he and I have locked horns because we’ve disagreed about how things should be done or shared or whatever but it’s because wherever there’s contention, there’s care. I respect him so much for how he has crafted this story.” And that’s a wrap on Ellie, Joel, and the most ambitious cinematic shoot we’ve ever done. Tears were shed… #TheLastOfUsPartII pic.twitter.com/mRnlP54u4N- Dr. Uckmann (@Neil_Druckmann) April 18, 2019 Troy went on to add: “I have to go back and give credit to Neil because the cards that he has shown have been very, very carefully selected. Not because they’re worried about giving too much away or spoiling it, simply because there’s a way that he wants you to experience his game. I’m always cautious to make sure that I don’t mess that up.” Amusingly (though not for Troy), the Sony State of Play which revealed to the world when The Last of Us Part 2 was releasing (before the date change) just so happened to be scheduled for when the actor was on a plane – a plane that happened to have no WiFi.ADVERT ADVERT Credit: Naughty Dog “It was the worst…It was the one place they were like ‘Sorry, we don’t have it on this plane.’ I was like ‘No. You need to change planes because I HAVE to be there.’ “I can’t believe after five years of waiting for us to actually announce the release date, I was just off coms. But it was a really cool thing to land and just all of a sudden the world had exploded. Not only just because of the appearance of Joel, but because we could finally go ‘Okay. On this date. This date it’s actually happening, it’s coming.'” Of course, that date has now changed, but hey what can you do.ADVERT ADVERT Credit: GameByte He added: “I know there was nobody that was more glad to see that date, and to put that out, than Neil and the team. There’s 300 plus people at Naughty Dog that have been chomping at the bit to let everyone know that game is finally coming out.” The Last of Us Part 2 releases exclusively on PlayStation 4, May 2020.
