The Red Dead Redemption PC Emulation Project Has Been Stopped 10 September 2019 by Lara Jackson It’s not wholly unexpected to hear, but the ambitious fan project to remaster Red Dead Redemption for PC has come to a standstill. Red Dead Redemption: Damned Enhancement Project hit the headlines earlier this month, with thousands of people desperately wanting to see the project become playable. The game developer planned to completely rework the original Rockstar Games title from the ground up, and from what had been shown so far it was looking seriously impressive. Until now.ADVERT ADVERT Credit: GamingDamned/Rockstar Games It’s not been spelled out why the project has been halted, but a safe bet would be that Rockstar Games, or its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has stepped in. Over on GTAForums, a post from the developer DamnedDev reads: “Please Note Project Halted. Update Video will made and will explain. I’m Not very happy. Please Understand For Time Being All Will Be Explained.” At the time of writing, a video has yet to appear.ADVERT ADVERT Credit: GamingDamned/Rockstar Games In an email to PCGamer, DamnedDev explained: “I can’t [say what happened] but you know who had a hand in this halt. I rather not speak more as they warned me to be hush but cmon really people already gonna know if it gets shut down out of no where. Just gonna put it like that if you get the drift or not. But yeah usual corp greed thinks they can bully you.” Despite the game’s page stating that The Damned Enhancement Project aims to “remaster and optimize the game,” DamnedDev states that this isn’t the case. “For legal purpose the project is a ‘Mod’. And will use [the] existing game with tweaked stuff and new textures and some updated models here and there,ADVERT ADVERT Credit: GamingDamned/Rockstar Games “But ‘Media’ caused this to begin with. They click-baited calling it something it isn’t for clicks and views.” DamnedDev also claims that the parties involved may have stepped over the line in their pursuit of the project. I’ve been contacting people to spread word. I’m not letting them them bully me and keep my mouth shut. I complied and stopped progress but hopefully I can sort out this.”ADVERT ADVERT More on this story as it progresses.
