Kojima mulls Death Stranding genre, says it's something "totally brand new" It's called action/strand. News by Tom Phillips Deputy Editor Updated on 5 Jun 2019 113 comments Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has responded to fans asking about the genre of his upcoming opus Death Stranding. Despite similarities to his man-in-a-cardboard-box simulator series, Kojima has shrugged off new suggestions that Death Stranding is a stealth game - despite last week's trailer showing Norman Reedus character Sam hiding in the shrubbery. What about a shooter, then? You can, we've seen, mow down enemies in a trench warfare-like setting. No, says Kojima, it is not that either. "DS is not a stealth game," Kojima wrote on Twitter today. "Could move subjectively but not a FPS shooting game either. By incorporating with the concept of connection (strand), it's totally brand new genre called action game/strand game (social strand system)." As I'm getting similar questions so I shall re-post. DS is not a stealth game. Could move subjectively but not a FPS shooting game either. By incorporating with the concept of connection(strand), it's totally brand new genre called action game/strand game(social strand system). pic.twitter.com/1KaQUVH9zL- HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) June 5, 2019 To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Back to Kojima's blog post which came out alongside the trailer: "It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the Strand or connection," Kojima wrote. "As [Norman Reedus character] Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or 'Strands' with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you'll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others." Watch on YouTube How will it do that?
