News by Vikki Blake Contributor Updated on 8 Sep 2019 10 comments Blizzard is finally recovering after a wave of DDoS attacks took down World of Warcraft Classic servers over the weekend. As Kotaku reports, these DDoS attacks began at around 3pm UK time yesterday. A group purporting to be from the UK took credit for the attacks, and gave a "20-30 mins" notice period before seemingly targeting all US servers, including some non-Classic ones. The Twitter account that gave notice of the attack has since been suspended. Blizzard confirms issues with some online services persist, including high latency and disconnections. The players themselves are reporting ongoing issues with logging into Battle.net, while others fear the attacks might not yet be over (although that could be a mix-up as there's server maintenance scheduled for today, too). Some online services continue to be impacted by a series of DDoS attacks which are resulting in high latency and disconnections. These disruption effects have been felt by a portion of our players, impacting their gaming experience. Thank you again for your continued patience.- Blizzard CS - The Americas (@BlizzardCS) September 7, 2019 To see this content please enable targeting cookies. "These disruption effects have been felt by a portion of our players, impacting their gaming experience. Thank you again for your continued patience." Looking ahead, the North American customer support team said the developer will "continue to actively monitor an ongoing DDOS attack against network providers, affecting latency/connections to our games" and while everything should be pretty much back to normal, "some players may experience persistent login issues until realm maintenance [later today]".
