News by Emma Kent Contributor Updated on 21 Jan 2020 3 comments Wouldn't it be nice if we could all just get along? In the main story of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, this unfortunately isn't the case. Not everyone sees eye to eye on some rather big topics, and while you can recruit most characters to your house, you can only play with one house leader at a time. Thanks to upcoming story DLC Cindered Shadows, however, it seems the house leaders will finally agree on something, and even put aside their differences to work together. For a little while, at least. Announced via the Fire Emblem Twitter account, we now know who the playable characters are in the DLC chapter, which has a fixed cast of 11. Dimitri, Edelgard and Claude will all be playable, along with another representative from each of the houses: Ashe, Lindhardt and Hilda. There are also the brand-new members of unofficial fourth house Ashen Wolves - Balthus, Yuri, Hapi and Constance. And then there's Byleth, of course. "Cross the boundaries and work together to face the mystery of the Abyss," reads a translation of the tweet. "In helping [the Ashen Wolves], the protagonists are exposed to some truth, sleeping in the darkness of Abyss." Watch on YouTube From the official DLC page, we know Cindered Shadows works as a separate save, and forms a side-story set within the same time period as the first half of the game (without inheriting the main game's data). It's also going to be a little harder than usual, with special gimmicks to keep you on your toes in the maps. The page also suggests the side-story will forgo the usual teaching cycle of the main storyline. After progressing through Cindered Shadows, you'll be able to recruit the Ashen Wolves into the main story. The idea of having the three house leaders work together in a DLC has been bandied around the Fire Emblem community for some time now - and while things still fall apart in the main story, at least everyone can temporarily have fun together in this side adventure. Who would have thought all it took to unite the houses was a bunch of sewer kids.
