Spelunky 2's PC version dated for the end of September Two weeks after the PS4 release. News by Matt Wales Reporter Updated on 4 Sep 2020 22 comments Spelunky 2, the feverishly (around these parts, at least) anticipated sequel to developer Derek Yu's critically acclaimed 2008 subterranean platform rogue-like, is coming to PC on 29th September, a few short weeks after the PS4 version arrives. This time, the series' procedurally generated adventuring is transplanted to the moon - or rather, far below its surface - and there's some significant expansion to the original's much-loved core in the process. For instance, Spelunky's familiar side-scrolling exploration (Yu previously explained he wanted players to "feel like they're playing a continuation, both storywise and mechanically") is now bolstered by new areas, items, monsters, and traps. Watch on YouTube Yu's most recent trailer offered hints at increased structural complexity and richness too, including branching paths and what appears to be a greater focus on set-piece puzzles. Additionally, Spelunky 2 slings in liquid physics to introduce even greater unpredictably to the adventure, alongside rideable mounts, and online multiplayer. And that's before we even get to the cloning gun, flamethrower, and turkeys. The original Spelunky was an out-and-out classic - it easily managed to secure a place on Eurogamer's games of the decade list last year - and we'll know how its sequel shapes up when it comes to PS4 on 15th September and to Steam on 29th September.
