News by Matt Wales Reporter Updated on 24 Feb 2020 8 comments Focus Home Interactive has unveiled a new cinematic trailer for Othercide, developer Lightbulb Crew's wonderfully moody turn-based tactical horror RPG. Othercide was initially unveiled early last year, and it's an immediately arresting proposition - sporting a stark monochromatic aesthetic cut through with angry streaks of red. It also has some striking monster design - as its latest trailer can attest - all juddering limbs and faceless flesh. Moving on from its stylish veneer, Othercide's turn-based tactical core has more than a touch of XCOM about it (albeit with perhaps a larger collection of undulating tentacles), and promises "roguelite features, deadly missions, limited resources, and permanent death". Players must command reality's finest warriors, known as the Daughters, across a dying timeline to defeat the terrifying Others and boss-like Suffering from "beyond known dimensions". Watch on YouTube The Daughters - which occupy three different archetypes: Blademaster, Soulslinger, and Shieldbearer - are each graced with a unique set of skills, and can make use of Othercide's big addition during combat, the Dynamic Timeline System. This enables players to do things like interrupt an enemy attack, plan delayed actions to be triggered later in the timeline, or use reaction skills to respond to any threat. As a game progresses, Daughters will level up, acquire new skills, and can utilise the memories of slain Suffering in order to access additional stat-boosting bonuses. And here's a glimpse of the game in action. "Cowardice will be punished, barely surviving will leave scars, and particularly efficient dispatching of the creatures sent against you will be rewarded, permanently affecting their stats," is how Othercide's Steam page puts it. "Memories, obtained from re-enacting the actions of their progenitor, change and improve each skill through customisation, making your army truly your own. Inevitably, you'll need to make the toughest decision and sacrifice one of your Daughters to heal another - survivors will get stronger, ready to fight the next battle". It certainly sounds intriguing, and it's undoubtedly a looker. We'll know how the end result fares when Othercide comes to Xbox One, PS4, and PC this summer.
