Cyberpunk 2077 now includes epilepsy warning on PC Following report of reviewer seizure. News by Tom Phillips Deputy Editor Updated on 10 Dec 2020 29 comments A new update for Cyberpunk 2077 has added a "risk of seizure" warning to the game's PC version. As of writing, Eurogamer has verified this warning is currently visible only on PC and not on PlayStation or Xbox. It follows this week's earlier report of a Game Informer employee experiencing symptoms of epilepsy while reviewing the game, and developer CD Projekt Red's subsequent pledge to update the game in response. Watch on YouTube The new warning text is boilerplate stuff - the kind you've probably seen in numerous video games before now, though not previously in Cyberpunk 2077. Still, it does specifically call out the flashing light sequence seen when entering the game's braindances. "Warning: Risk of Seizure," the warning reads. "In this game you will encounter a variety of visual effects (eg. flashing lights during braindance sequences) that may provoke seizures or loss of consciousness in a minority of people. If you or someone in your family has ever displayed symptoms of epilepsy in the presence of flashing lights, please consult your physician before playing Cyberpunk 2077. If you or someone you know experiences any of the above symptoms while playing, stop and seek medical attention immediately." Its addition was first noted on Twitter by Washington Post reporter Elise Favis: Booted up Cyberpunk 2077 to see a seizure warning come up at the start of the game that wasn't there before. Really amazing to see how @DirtyEffinHippy helped make meaningful change happen for the safety of players. pic.twitter.com/ItNwuLOxla- Elise Favis (@elisefavis) December 10, 2020 To see this content please enable targeting cookies. UK charity Epilepsy Action subsequently called for an urgent update to the game in response. Later that day, CD Projekt responded that it included a seizure warning in the game's EULA text on its website - but that it would also now add one to the game as well. That appears to be what has now been implemented. Beyond this, CD Projekt said it was also "currently exploring" a more permanent solution which would be implemented as soon as possible.
