Bungie signals The Darkness is finally coming to Destiny 2 There is no end in sight for us. News by Wesley Yin-Poole Deputy Editorial Director Updated on 30 May 2020 33 comments It has been a long time coming - nearly six years, in fact - but it finally looks like The Darkness is coming to the world of Destiny. Developer Bungie signalled the Destiny universe's pantomime villain is on its way via a tweet that included a mysterious audio clip. But it is the background to this audio clip that has set Destiny fan tongues wagging - and speculation is running rampant. pic.twitter.com/ZLUJaQgJwX- Destiny 2 (@DestinyTheGame) May 29, 2020 To see this content please enable targeting cookies. THERE MAY BE SPOILERS AHEAD Pyramid ships were first spotted years ago via Destiny 1 concept art, but it wasn't until the very end of Destiny 2's Red War campaign that we got a glimpse of them in-game. More recently, Destiny 2 expansion Shadowkeep featured one hidden underneath the surface of the Moon. Destiny 2's Season of the Worthy has let players track the progress of the pyramid ships towards earth via Rasputin's pixelated map of the solar system. With every passing week, the pyramid ships get closer to The Last City and of course the Traveler. Here's the map as it was following this week's update, showing the pyramid ships just outside Saturn: Gif credit redditor SgtClassicVue. Bungie's shooter is currently in the middle of its 10th season, dubbed Season of the Worthy, and a storyline that involves The Almighty plummeting towards The Last City. The Almighty is a massive Cabal superweapon that was left broken and orbiting the Sun at the end of the Destiny 2 campaign. Now, after a desperate Psion Flayer set The Almighty on a collision course with earth, players are trying to use the warmind Rasputin to destroy it. It's expected The Almighty does not in fact destroy earth or the Tower when the Season of the Worthy ends at the weekly reset on 9th June 2020, but players have found evidence Destiny's famous social space does get properly smashed up - by glitching into the future of the Tower. After that? Well, perhaps the pyramid ships are on course to arrive at earth this September. That would be a nice time for a Destiny 2 expansion, wouldn't it? I quite like this Half-Life 3 conspiracy-style theory from redditor AccidentallyCaptured: "So the background image to the video that Bungie posted is made up of different sized rectangles. There are 91 of them to be exact. Next season starts June 9th. 91 days from June 9th is September 8th. A Tuesday. And a potential release date for the fall expansion."
