Destiny 2 gets its first Fortnite-style live event today UPDATE: Crash landing. News by Wesley Yin-Poole Deputy Editorial Director Updated on 6 Jun 2020 31 comments UPDATE: Destiny 2's first live event has now completed. THERE MAY BE SPOILERS AHEAD. Bungie had signalled Rasputin would take aim at The Almighty at 6pm UK time. An hour and a half later, red trails in the sky above the Tower caused a massive explosion on the Cabal superweapon, which then proceeded to fall to Earth. As The Almighty shot across the sky, debris smashed into parts of the Tower. The superweapon landed behind the Tower with another blinding explosion. Parts of the Tower are now damaged, and players are exploring the social space to work out what's changed. Still, it's great to see Destiny try something it's never done before. The Almighty is a massive Cabal superweapon that was left broken and orbiting the Sun at the end of the Destiny 2 campaign. At the beginning of the season, a desperate Psion Flayer set The Almighty on a collision course with earth. Players then had to effectively charge up Rasputin via a series of Seraph Tower events so it could use its powerful weapons to shoot The Almighty out of the sky. It's expected The Almighty does not destroy Earth or the Tower, but players have found evidence Destiny's famous social space does get properly smashed up - by glitching into the future of the Tower. Whatever happens, this is Destiny 2's first ever proper live event in the Fortnite sense. Bungie staff have said Destiny 2 players can load into the Tower before the reset, and do not need to restart the instance to witness the fun.
