Stylish turn-based horror RPG Othercide gets a July release date Coming to Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Switch. News by Matt Wales Reporter Updated on 17 Jun 2020 2 comments Developer Lightbulb Crew's stylish turn-based tactical horror RPG Othercide will be heading to Xbox One, PS4, and PC on 28th July, with a Switch release due "soon". Even without delving into the fundamentals, Othercide is an immediately arresting proposition, featuring a striking art style that combines a stark monochromatic colour palette (with the occasional searing splashes of red) and some wonderfully unsettling monster design. Beneath that veneer, however, are some equally intriguing ideas that build out from an XCOM-like turn-based tactical core. Players control an army of warriors known as the Daughters - taking the form of either Blademasters, Soulslingers, or Shieldbearer, each with their own skills - and must race across a dying timeline to save humanity from foes originating outside of reality. Watch on YouTube Lightbulb Crew describes Othercide's strategic battle system as an "intricate dance of spectacular actions and counters", all of which plays out through the game's Dynamic Timeline System. This enables players to plan ahead during battle, setting up chains of abilities that can deployed against enemies as combat continues, making it possible to interrupt attacks, trigger delayed actions, or even use special reaction skills. If the tide of battle turns against players, Daughters can be sacrificed to restore the health of others - potentially making for some tough decisions - but those that survive will evolve over time, levelling up, acquiring new skills, and even gaining new stat-boosting bonuses from the memories of the boss-like Suffering standing in the way of humanity's salvation. Quite how all that will ultimately come together remains to be seen, but those willing to take a punt can pre-order Othercide now on Steam and Xbox One with 15% off the usual £30-ish price tag. Publisher Focus Interactive says that Switch and PlayStation 4 pre-orders will go live closer to Othercide's 28th July release date.
