Halo developer rubbishes "unfounded" Infinite rumour "I'm aware we could help solve this with real news..." News by Tom Phillips Deputy Editor Updated on 1 Dec 2020 41 comments Halo Infinite community director Brian Jarrard has spoken out about a certain rumour currently swirling around the game. Yesterday, numerous websites and blogs widely spread the rumour that Halo Infinite would include a battle royale mode. The original source of the rumour was a month-old reddit post from an anonymous user which picked up little attention at the time. The post made numerous claims about Halo Infinite's planned development throughout the next decade, including "a Battle Royal [sic] styled game mode for free set on Zeta Halo" apparently due in 2021. More recently, this information was posted by the "Gaming Leaks & Rumours" Twitter account (this tweet has now been pulled), and from there it gathered a surprising amount of steam. Writing on Twitter last night as this rumour spread, Jarrard said: "Nothing gets a post-holiday Monday going like fresh unfounded Halo Infinite rumours." Last year, Halo boss Frank O'Connor said Halo Infinite would not launch with a battle royale mode. "We are NOT doing this as of now - and no plans to," he wrote on Resetera. "You can probably make your own Battle Royale mode in Forge even right now though," he added. Halo Infinite will skip this year's Game Awards, Jarrard said last month, because the team was still "going through the huge cascade of implications and ramifications to the release [date] shift". Additionally, it does not have a new trailer or build of the game to show because the game was already due to be released by now. That said, Jarrard did say he hoped 343 would be able to offer "at least a high level update within the next few weeks so we can kind of restart this journey together after the holidays". "Btw yes I'm aware we could help solve this with real news," Jarrard concluded last night. "We certainly have some things we're overdue on and eager to talk more about. We're in the process of pulling together a year-end update." Just don't expect that year-end update to include the words "battle royale".
