Monster Hunter movie release date slides to 2021 Pandemic and competing movies are thought to be behind the delay. News by Vikki Blake Contributor Updated on 12 Jul 2020 4 comments The Hollywood movie based upon Capcom's successful Monster Hunter franchise has been delayed once again. As Deadline reports, the complications caused by the on-going COVID-19 pandemic - as well as a competing debut date with hugely-anticipated sequel A Quiet Place 2 - will see the movie's scheduled release slip from 4th September 2020 to 23rd April, 2021. A brief glimpse of the forthcoming Monster Hunter movie leaked online this time last year. The short 30-second teaser captured off-screen at the Shanghai International Film Festival shows off a fantastical desert backdrop, as well as stars Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa in traditional Monster Hunter garb. We also get to see one of the real stars, iconic monster Diablos. In other Monster Hunter news, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's previously delayed fourth major content update - which pits hunters against formidable elemental-shifting black dragon Alatreon - was released on Thursday 9th July for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. As Matt reported at the time, Alatreon - whose arrival in Iceborne was teased at the start of the year, when Capcom hinted that players could look forward to the return of a "fan-favourite" creature as part of its 2020 development roadmap - originally debuted in Monster Hunter 3, and was set to make its mark on Iceborne, complete with craftable weapons and armour, in May. However, Capcom was ultimately forced to delay Alatreon's arrival due to "coronavirus related impacts on production", which, it noted, would also affect voiceover production, meaning the update's Italian, Spanish, and French voice work will be replaced with "simplified recordings".
