Far Cry 6 officially confirmed And the star of Coco plays Gus Fring's son. News by Tom Phillips Deputy Editor Updated on 13 Jul 2020 49 comments Ubisoft has now officially announced Far Cry 6 for release on 18th February 2021, following an earlier leak last week. As we know already, the game stars Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian's Giancarlo Esposito as its antagonist Anton Castillo, a brutal dictator who rules over the game's Cuban-influenced setting. The casting of Anton Castillo, star of Pixar film Coco, was also confirmed today. He plays Castillo's 13-year-old son Diego: a boy unsure whether to follow in his father's footsteps. Watch on YouTube You play Dani Rojas, a guerrilla fighter trying to take down the presidency's rule. It's a character which can be played as either female or male. While heavily based on Cuba, Far Cry 6 is set on the fictional island of Yara. Ubisoft describes the country as its most ambitious open world to date, with the series' classic tropical beaches and jungles mixed in beside Esperanza, its sprawling capital city. The time setting for the game is unclear, with the island described as being "frozen in time" due to its economic crisis. Castillo has turned it into a slave state and there is an attempt at revolution in progress, organised by different guerrilla groups with conflicting beliefs. In its reveal teaser, we see Castillo giving his son a lesson in how to operate a grenade - and use it against the rioting populace. Diego seems unsure what to do. Will you be able to guide his decisions throughout the game? We'll have to wait and find out. We'll also have to wait to see gameplay, which a Ubisoft spokesperson told Eurogamer was still a few months away. Screenshots showed high rise buildings in Esperanza - a far more urban setting than any featured in Far Cry before, and the use of tanks - which surely you'll also be able to drive. Fangs for Hire, the series' animal companion gameplay, is also back. One recruit is a sausage dog named Chorizo. While it has only been two years since the US-set Far Cry 5, and just a year since spin-off New Dawn, Ubisoft said that Far Cry 6 has already been in development for 4 years, with its Toronto studio taking the lead.
