Microsoft officially discontinues Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition But Xbox One S still being manufactured and sold. News by Matt Wales Reporter Updated on 16 Jul 2020 162 comments Microsoft has responded to reports claiming that Xbox One production has ceased, confirming that while its Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition are indeed officially discontinued, the Xbox One S is still being manufactured and sold. Word that Microsoft's current-gen console was no longer in production began to circulate on message boards late last week, and these initially unsubstantiated reports gained increasing credibility as a number of retailers, including Amazon and Target in the US (thanks Metro), began to list various Xbox One models as discontinued on their websites. However, further confusion arose when Xbox console business planning lead Dan Tavares popped up on Twitter to suggest the listings were merely a result of high consumer demand for Xbox One and changes to SKU numbers. Xbox One S is very much still available, we just changed SKU numbers. Amazon is just messy in how they show products.- Dan Tavares (@HonestHippo) July 4, 2020 To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Manage cookie settings In a new statement provided to Eurogamer, though, Microsoft has moved to officially clear up any uncertainty, confirming that, yes, at least some of its Xbox One line-up is discontinued. "As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X", a Microsoft spokesperson said, "we're taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally." The company also suggested that those looking to purchase an Xbox One should "check with their local retailers for more details on Xbox One hardware availability." Microsoft will be revealing more about Xbox Series X in a livestream next Thursday, 23rd July. However, as Xbox's Aaron Greenberg reminded fans on Twitter earlier today, this will focus exclusively on games, and not "business, devices or similar news" - implying word on pricing and release dates for Xbox Series X are almost certainly out of the question. According to Eurogamer's sources, a second, lower-powered next-gen console - Xbox Series S, codenamed Lockhart - is currently set to be unveiled in August.
