Right now you can pick it up for £384 on Amazon, down from £440. The 27GL83A is actually a variant of our #1 pick for the best gaming monitor, the LG 27GL850, with one major difference: the 27GL83A doesn't have an integrated USB hub. Otherwise, the two monitors are nigh-identical, using the same Nano IPS 1ms panel that caused us to recognise the 27GL850 as the best gaming monitor on the market. The panel combines the traditional strengths of IPS - wide viewing angles and accurate colour reproduction - with the fast motion handling that you'd normally associate with a high-spec TN panel. The 27GL83A has a GtG pixel response time of 1ms, which is far below the 4ms to 8ms that you'd normally expect from an IPS monitor. That means you get a display that looks excellent for videos and cinematic games, but also one that performs extremely well in fast-paced games like Call of Duty Warzone, CSGO or Valorant. This monitor sits right in the current gaming sweet spot too, with a resolution of 2560x1440 (1440p) and a refresh rate of 144Hz. That means you get an upgrade over the standard 1080p 60Hz monitor in two dimensions, translating into enhanced visual quality and improved responsiveness without becoming too difficult to drive with a mid-range gaming PC. Other essential features, like FreeSync and G-Sync Compatible support, make this an extremely strong all-rounder. While gaming is the focus of the 27GL83A, it's also a great choice for anyone doing colour-sensitive creative work like video rendering or photo editing. The nanoparticle coating provides coverage of 99% per cent of the sRGB colour gamut. HDR inputs are also supported, although the relatively low contrast ratio of this monitor (around 1000:1) means that HDR content doesn't pop quite as much as it does on significantly more expensive monitors built around VA or OLED panels. There are other great features on this monitor too - including an ergonomic stand and a solid OSD with plenty of gaming-specific features - but we'll leave them for the full 27GL850 review if you're interested. What we really want to emphasise here is that the 27GL83A is a great monitor for PC gaming, it's been hard to find due to the ongoing human malware situation, but now it's available and it's on sale for a really good price. If you're interested, pick one up for £384 before stock inevitably runs out - you won't regret it. Oh, and if you really need a USB hub - the 27GL850 is on sale at Currys for £450. However, you could also pick up a simple USB hub with more ports for around £10, making the 27GL83A the better deal by a good margin! While we've focused on PC gaming, the 27GL83A could also suit owners of PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles - if you're not fussed about 4K and you'd prefer to run games at higher refresh rates like 120 or 144Hz. It's not clear how common high refresh rate support will be on PS5 or Xbox Series X, but some games have already been announced to support 120Hz and I'm sure more will follow. For 4K 120Hz gaming, we'd recommend waiting a little longer, as the first HDMI 2.1 gaming monitors are still a few months away - or choosing one of the best 4K TVs for HDR gaming, including the 48-inch LG CX OLED.
