Everything you need to know about Victini Victini/ Victini is a fire and psychic-type Pokémon, which made its first appearance in Pokémon Black and White. Like most mythical Pokémon, this appearance was done via a limited-time event, which, in Victini's case, required the player to own the Liberty Pass to unlock. Victini is the Victory Pokémon and it's believed, according to its Pokédex entry from Pokémon Black, that 'Trainers with Victini always win, regardless of the type of encounter.' This connection between Victini and the concept of victory is furthered when you notice not only how similar the two words are, but how Victini is similar to the name Victoria, which was the name given to the Roman goddess of victory. Aside from its name Victini's design also has Roman connotations, as it's ears are shaped like a V, which, along with being the first letter in victory, is the Roman numeral for five. Since Vicitini is part of Gen 5, it's highly likely that this design decision was made to reflect that fact. Victini also occupies a unique position in both the Unova and National Pokédex. In the Unova Pokédex Victini is listed as 000; not only does this make Victini the only Pokémon ever listed above the starter Pokémon in a regional Pokédex, but it makes it the only Pokémon to hold this number in any Pokédex. Due to this positioning, it means that Victini is the mythical Pokémon to appear next to another mythical Pokémon from a past generation in the National Pokédex.
