Guide by Matthew Reynolds Managing Editor Updated on 11 Jan 2021 Hardcore modes are a set of playlists that have gained fan-favourite status in Call of Duty multiplayer over the years. The good news is there are several Modern Warfare Hardcore modes available, and they are not to be confused with the Realism mode, which is a separate thing entirely. Unlike Ground War which was temporarily disabled in the game at launch, Hardcore is there and ready to be played whenever - if you know where to look. How to play Hardcore modes in Modern Warfare To play Hardcore modes in Modern Warfare, you must perform the following steps: 1. In the main Multiplayer Lobby, you'll see a list of modes, starting with Quick Play at the top. To the right of this option is a 'Filter' option. Select it. 2. You will now be in the Quick Play Filter screen, allowing you to unselect the modes you want to play. As well as this list, there is a second list available for Hardcore. To reveal these, press the Square button (or X on Xbox), to change the 'Selected Category', as prompted above where it says 'Team Deathmatch'. 3. The list will then change to show Modern Warfare's many Hardcore modes. Deselect any you don't want to play, then press Circle (or B on Xbox) to return back to the multiplayer lobby, where you can start playing Hardcore through the Quick Play option. Not the most clear way to access these modes, but now you know how, you can customise your Quick Play settings to play the Hardcore modes you enjoy most. This includes limiting the HUD (on-screen indicators), reducing your health and enabling friendly fire between teammates.
