News by Matt Wales Reporter Updated on 8 Apr 2021 5 comments PlayStation VR owners with a lust for unease and a taste for the disorientating will soon be able to traipse the halls of Bloober Team's psychedelic haunted house horror Layers of Fear VR, which opens its door on 29th April. Originally released for PC at the tail-end of 2019, Layers of Fear VR does pretty much exactly what it says on the label, delivering a more intensely immersive version of Bloober Team's delirious 2016 horror specifically designed for virtual reality headsets. Layers of Fear, if you're unfamiliar, tells the tale of a tortured painter as he attempts to complete his masterpiece - a process that draws players into an increasingly hallucinatory nightmare, with the game's beautifully realised gothic mansion setting warping and reconfiguring itself into ever-more-impossible arrangements, and delivering some deliciously disorientating, frequently unforgettable set-pieces in the process. Watch on YouTube Layers of Fear VR - Launch Trailer. It's not without its flaws - Layers of Fear is certainly hokey, and a little too reliant on hoary old genre cliches and jump scares - but I (admittedly speaking as someone who's an absolute sucker for shifting, impossible spaces in my horror) absolutely adore it's wonderfully orchestrated slice of richly realised, and surprisingly affecting, gothic melodrama. Layers of Fear's new PSVR release (developed by Incuvo in conjunction with Bloober), is basically all of the above but more so, given that you can put your face in it. And if that sounds like the kind of experience you might enjoy, it'll cost $19.99 USD (around £15) when it comes to the PlayStation Store on 29th April.
