Call of Duty: Warzone gets its first ever objective-based mode this week Hit the Payload. News by Wesley Yin-Poole Deputy Editorial Director Updated on 13 Jul 2021 3 comments Call of Duty: Warzone gets its first ever objective-based mode this week. It's called Payload, and it arrives as part of the Season Four Reloaded refresh, which kicks off 5am UK time this Thursday, 15th July. Watch on YouTube Payload is inspired by Call of Duty: WW2's War Mode (a mode I very much enjoyed), Activision said in a blog post. In it, two teams of 20 players fight against each other in a race against time to obtain intel from vehicles that are carrying satellite parts. If the attacking team escorts all vehicles across all checkpoints within the time limit, they win the match. The defending team can pick attackers off the payload vehicles to slow them down, and buy and build obstacles to stall the vehicles on the tracks. Meanwhile operators drop in constantly with their own custom loadouts, searching for items across Verdansk like cash and killstreaks. Payload is set for the featured playlist rotation as part of Season Four Reloaded. Elsewhere, Warzone gets a new killstreak this week: the sentry gun from Treyarch's Black Ops Cold War. This rapid-fire turret works similarly in Warzone to how it works in Black Ops Cold War: it scans a near 180 degree radius in front of itself to seek and shoot enemies. It does this for at least a minute after deployment before it self-destructs. The sentry gun is an extremely rare legendary item drop within a red door room supply box, Activision said. Speaking of the red doors, Activision teased some sort of change is coming to the teleportation devices. Here's the official blurb: "Brave Operators across Verdansk have gone through the Red Doors, stepping out into parts unknown... "Further intel suggests that these Red Doors will appear [[REDACTED]] and take you to [[REDACTED]]. "As Perseus sleeper cells are still at large in Verdansk, we caution you to [[REDACTED]]." I have no idea what that means. We'll find out on Thursday! Two new weapons are coming to Warzone during the rest of season four: the OTs 9 SMG at the launch of the refresh, and the mace melee in-season. Activision said the OTs 9 can be compared to the Bullfrog in terms of damage and fire-rate (slightly more power and over 100 RPM more in fire rate), but with a lesser magazine capacity. "The standard 20-round magazine is enough to deal with a few operators, especially if headshots are mixed in, but it may be worth looking at unlocking its optional 30 or 40 round attachments when playing modes with bigger squad sizes," Activision said. "The OTs 9 is primed to compete with the best SMGs across Black Ops Cold War and Warzone." Here are the Warzone update sizes (you can preload now on PlayStation): PlayStation 5: 8.9GB PlayStation 4: 8.9GB Xbox Series X and S: 9.2GB Xbox One: 9.2GB PC: 9.2GB (Warzone Only) / 10.4GB (Warzone and Modern Warfare) Of note: PC users also need 12.4-12.9GB of additional space on their harddrive for the patch copying process; this is only temporary space that is reclaimed upon completion of the patch installation and is not an additional download.
