Medieval China-set action RPG Where Winds Meet announced New open world adventure. News by Ed Nightingale News reporter Published on 23 Aug 2022 8 comments Brand new game Where Winds Meet was announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live. The game is from developer Everstone Games and is an open world action RPG set in the Ten Kingdoms period of medieval China. The game was revealed with a stunning looking trailer that showed off its lush setting of bamboo forests, snow covered mountains, and other surreal areas. Watch on YouTube Where Winds Meet - New Gameplay Trailer Here's some background on that setting: "It takes place during the twilight of the Ten Kingdoms, the very era when an entire dynasty could crumble in a blink of an eye. The melody of 'The Beautiful Lady Yu' heralded the end of the road for the last emperor of the Southern Tang Dynasty. Li Yu ruled the world as the emperor but was better known as the Immortal King of Poetry. It was his love for poetry, not power, that eventually lost him the war and saw him become a prisoner of Song. During the three years of incarceration, Li yearned for his country and lover incessantly. After realizing his fate lay in a cup of poisoned wine, he turned those longings into the masterpiece called 'The Beautiful Lady Yu'." Players will take the role of a swordsman who's grown up in this time of division and unrest. The gameplay includes some awesome looking combat, including Ch'ing Kung skills like running on water, flips and slow-motion bow shots in the air, and flashy strikes with a variety of weapons. Combat will feature sword fighting, Wuxia-style martial arts, and even Tai chi, mixing up sword fighting, hand-to-hand combat, and magic. Players can pursue multiple story choices and shape the role of the swordsman, including picking sides in the war between kingdoms. Players can also pursue other goals like being "a doctor saving lives in the chaotic world, or a merchant accumulating wealth or play as an NPC traveling the ancient Kaifeng City." In an interview with IGN, the developer added more details to player choice, confirming the game will have a robust job system so players can specialize in a "variety of identities and occupations that exist in an Oriental martial arts society." "Other than becoming a doctor, players can choose other occupations," Everstone says. "For example, they can become an orator who uses the power of words to convince NPCs to follow their advice; they can become an architect who builds all kinds of imaginative buildings; they can become a bodyguard who protects players or NPCs from assassins; or they can become a ferryman who takes passengers on a tour of the river." The game also features a "free construction system" with 600 authentic antique components and an environment system in which players can interact with the whole world. Where Winds Meet will release on PC but there's no release date yet.
