Last Of Us 2 Multiplayer Could Be Free To Play & Have Microtransactions 6 January 2022 by Richard Breslin According to a recent job listing, The Last of Us Part 2’s multiplayer could be free-to-play as well as having microtransactions. When The Last of Us Part 2 was released in 2020, unlike the original game, it launched without a multiplayer mode. The original The Last of Us is considered to be one of the best video games of all time. To much surprise, its multiplayer mode Factions was also a lot of fun. Though it could be argued that it never quite generated the player online numbers that it deserved.ADVERT ADVERT It’s quite common knowledge that The Last of Us Part 2 will have a multiplayer mode. Eventually. However, we don’t know whether it will follow in the same footsteps as Factions or if it will be something completely different. Thankfully, the recent job listing may have shed some light on what to expect for the upcoming multiplayer mode. That being said, we’re not sure if everyone will be happy with the reports. Judging by the job listing in question, The Last of Us Part 2’s multiplayer mode could be free-to-play and filled with microtransactions. Credit: Naughty Dog What can we expect from the multiplayer mode As reported by Screen Rant, the job listing is advertising for a Senior Monetization/Economy Designer. A potential applicant requires a “focus on in-game initiatives to increase revenue and conversion while maintaining a strong player-first value system.” Furthermore, they will also “help build an incredible, player-friendly economy” as well as increase “in-game revenue and lifetime value, while respecting the player experience.”ADVERT ADVERT If all of the above doesn’t scream free-to-play and microtransactions, then I don’t know what does. To be fair, we’ve got good reason to be sceptical of any potential free-to-play model. However, giving Naughty Dog the benefit of the doubt, the studio knows how to create fun multiplayer. As proven by the likes of Uncharted 4 and the Factions mode. Obviously, at this time, we must take unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
