Marvel s Avengers Spider-Man DLC Has No Story Missions 24 November 2021 by Richard Breslin The highly anticipated Spider-Man DLC for Marvel’s Avengers will have no story missions. Which might disappoint a lot of excited fans. Much has been made of the upcoming Spider-Man content in Marvel Avengers from Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics. Not only because Spider-Man is one of the most beloved comic book characters of all time, but also due to the fact that this content is exclusive to PlayStation. Spider-Man's introduction to Marvel's Avengers doesn’t come with story missions like the Hawkeye and Black Panther updates. Instead it feels more akin to a character joining a hero-shooter roster. https://t.co/VuCieBmCd6 pic.twitter.com/dAENdsPpzw- IGN (@IGN) November 22, 2021 In previous Marvel’s Avengers content such as Black Panther’s “War for Wakanda”, the free content has offered not only a new playable character with new abilities and style but also story missions. Unfortunately, that isn’t quite the case with the “Great Power” Spider-Man event.ADVERT ADVERT Credit: Square Enix/Crystal Dynamics Recently, IGN had the opportunity to get two hours’ worth of hands-on time with Spider-Man in Marvel’s Avengers. However, it’s fair to say that IGNs preview wasn’t all that glowing. Not only does the lack of story missions put a damper on the excitement, but the web-slinging was compared to Spider-Man 2 on the PS2. Sure, that was a great PS2 game, but it’s also a 17-year-old game. So how does the Spider-Man content tell a story By reading IGNs preview, the story is told via in-game documents and emails with no cinematic cut-scenes. We are treated to a cut-scene presented in comic book form at the beginning of the story, but that seems like the best we’ll get. What s new in the Spider-Man content Credit: Square Enix/Crystal Dynamics Other than Spider-Man being a playable character, he will also come with three new abilities. The Spider-Drone, Web Bomb and Wrecking Ball. There will also be at least 40 new Spider-Man outfits. However, expect much of those outfits to cost you real-world money.ADVERT ADVERT It’s also worth keeping in mind that the gameplay seen in IGNs preview was not captured directly from the media outlet. Instead, it was b-roll footage provided by Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics. Personally, my excitement for the Spider-Man content has taken a major dip, though I am sure it will be fun playing as the friendly neighbourhood hero. That said, I think it might be wise to lower expectations going into this content. What are your thoughts on the IGN preview? Let us know across our social media channels. Spider-Man’s “Great Power” event will be available exclusively for PS4 and PS5 on November 30th.ADVERT ADVERT SHOP WITH GAMEBYTE Do not forget you can find great games and more on the GameByte Shop!
