Xbox Outsells PlayStation In Japan For First Time In 8 Years 20 May 2022 by Oisin Kuhnke Last week, for the first time since 2014, the Xbox has managed to outsell the PlayStation in Japan. Ever since the debacle surrounding the announcement of the Xbox One, the console has struggled to overtake PlayStation in sales. Back in the days of the Xbox 360 and the PS3, things were the other way around. But these days PlayStation is king in the sales department. But now, according to Famitsu, Xbox has actually outsold PlayStation for the first time in eight years. During the week of May 9 up to May 15, the Xbox Series S sold 6120 units. That’s a total of 2693 consoles sold, less than half of what the Series S sold in the same week. this isn’ t common for xbox Xbox hasn’t managed to do so in Japan since the launch of the Xbox One. Of course, this is probably due to how damn difficult it is to get any kind of PS5 due to the console shortages. These shortages have been a problem ever since both consoles came out. Though thankfully, a recent report has suggested that these shortages might soon come to an end.ADVERT ADVERT This also isn’t too surprising to hear due to comments Microsoft made last month. Back in April, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that the Xbox Series was the “market leader,” beating the PS5 in sales for the quarter. “With our Xbox Series S and X consoles, we have taken share globally for two quarters in a row and we are the market leader this quarter among the next-gen consoles in the United States, Canada, UK, and Western Europe,” said Nadella at the time.
