David Tennant And Catherine Tate Are Returning To Doctor Who 16 May 2022 by Oisin Kuhnke If you can believe it, David Tennant and Catherine Tate are set to reprise their roles as the Doctor and Donna in Doctor Who next year. Earlier this month, we got the great news that the incredible Ncuti Gatwa would be playing the next Doctor. Gatwa will be taking over the role as Russell T Davies returns as showrunner. It seems like Davies isn’t the only one returning to Doctor Who, as both Tennant and Tate will be back as part of the show’s 60th anniversary celebrations.ADVERT ADVERT Announced over on the Doctor Who blog, the post reminded us all who the Doctor and Donna last parted ways with Donna’s memory being wiped. As with much of Davies’ run, it was left on quite a sad note. As if Donna ever remembered the Doctor, she would die. So of course, there’s big questions as to how they’re both returning. how will it work “They’re back! And it looks impossible,” said Davies in a statement. “First, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening? Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.“ADVERT ADVERT Credit: BBC Of course, this isn’t the first time that Tennant has returned as the 10th Doctor. The actor reprised his role for the 50th anniversary episode. It’s a tradition in Doctor Who to have old actors return during anniversary specials, beginning in 1973 when William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton returned to the role for a special alongside incumbent-Doctor Jon Pertwee.
