Microsoft Is Working On A Smaller More Efficient Xbox Console 12 April 2022 by Richard Breslin Microsoft is reportedly working on a smaller, more efficient Xbox Series X chip. But what does this mean for the immediate future? It’s hard to believe that the Xbox Series X/S was released in November 2020. With all the stock shortages that have plagued new-gen consoles since launch, the time has flown by. However, despite many Xbox gamers struggling to get hold of a Series X, apparently, Microsoft is already working on a new and improved console. According to video game journalist Brad Sams, he claims that Microsoft is working on a smaller and more power-efficient chip. The claim was made during a video on his YouTube channel.ADVERT ADVERT A more efficient Xbox console “I believe this is true […] I know that Microsoft was working on revisions of the chip,” said Sams. “Now, are we going to see performance improvements, are we going to see anything else? I do not believe so, but Microsoft is always working on making cooler, more efficient chips because that lowers the cost of production.” Credit: Microsoft He continued: “I believe it is accurate that Microsoft is working on a smaller, more power-efficient chip. That is, I’m very confident in that.” So, what could this mean for the Xbox Series X? Well, at this time, not a lot. It’s not uncommon for companies such as Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo to plan ahead to improve current-gen consoles.ADVERT ADVERT Could we see an Xbox Series X Slim However, I wouldn’t expect to see an ‘Xbox Slim’ this year. That being said, I wouldn’t rule out one happening next year. After all, the console would have entered its third year in 2023. Though, that is just my humble opinion. For the immediate future, while stock supplies are seemingly improving for the Xbox Series X, I would imagine that Microsoft would want to focus on getting as many current-gen consoles into the homes of fans.
