BioShock Movie Confirmed To Be In Development From Netflix 16 February 2022 by Oisin Kuhnke Netflix is working on a BioShock movie adaptation alongside publishers 2K Games and Take-Two Interactive. The streaming giant announced the news of a BioShock movie adaptation yesterday on the Netflix Geeked Twitter account. Other than the fact that Netflix are working with 2K Games and Take-Two Interactive, the rights holders of the IP, details are pretty slim. No writer or director is currently attached to the project. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix is working with Take-Two to potentially create a cinematic universe based on the IP. Vertigo Entertainment and Take-Two are also serving as producers in the project. Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski was once attached to helm a live action adaptation. And was even months away from shooting at one point. But the project was ultimately pulled. Originally released in 2007, BioShock was a spiritual successor to 1994’s System Shock. BioShock takes place in an alternate 1960 in the fictional underwater city of Rapture. You play as Jack, who finds himself in Rapture after being in a plane crash in the middle of the ocean. And as you play through the game, you discover that the utopian city of Rapture isn’t quite so perfect as it was meant to be. Credit: 2K Games There are horror elements present in the game, and very light moral choices you can make. While the choices weren’t really that important in the game, it did still result in multiple endings. And the game has big themes to do with free will which only work because it is a video game.
