Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 beta plagued with cheaters 26 September 2022 by Richard Breslin The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta was apparently plagued with cheaters, resulting in players turning off crossplay. Over the weekend, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta was officially concluded. For the most part, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 proved to be very popular. At least for PC, the MW2 beta had a peak concurrent player number of 168,330 on Steam. ADVERT ADVERT These numbers have made it more popular than GTA 5, Cyberpunk 2077 and Destiny 2 during its active period. Do more players equal more cheaters As with the full release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, as well as Warzone 2.0, the game will offer crossplay. The crossplay will be available for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. In essence, crossplay should result in a healthier number of concurrent players. After all, it should make the process of joining a sizeable lobby more practical.ADVERT ADVERT Sadly, however, there is a downside to crossplay. It seems more players that take part in crossplay multiplayer games have the increased possibility of being paired with cheaters. It’s definitely a common acquisition associated with the likes of Halo Infinite, Fortnite, Apex Legends as well as Call of Duty, to name just a few. So, it’s not like their stats will remain ever present, unlike in the full release. Naturally, Call of Duty fans are already getting frustrated by cheaters in Modern Warfare 2 and the game isn’t even out yet. ADVERT ADVERT Fans on Reddit have been calling for a crossplay option between PlayStation and Xbox. In most cases, crossplay features PC, PlayStation and Xbox by default. That’s not to say that cheaters are exclusive to PC. However, it does seem likely that cheaters appear to be more prominent and are easier to implement such methods when gaming on PC. Modern Warfare 2 developers, Infinity Ward, are aware of the beta cheaters and bans will apparently be issued.
