However, it’s also becoming increasingly easy to access online gambling streams.ADVERT ADVERT When regulated, a good old game of poker on Twitch will be an enjoyable and safe space. However, it’s the unregulated gambling streams that are causing issues. There have been claims that wins are rigged to entice online viewers to gamble their money away. Twitch streamer xQc, who has a reported net worth of $9 million, revealed during a Twitch stream that he has gambled over half a billion dollars on the website, Stake. During the stream, xQc bravely admitted to his 80,000 subscribers that he has a “gambling addiction”. Sadly, despite his omission, he also admitted to continuing to gamble his money away. In his stream, xQc revealed his lifetime wagers total over $685 million over 656,376 bets.ADVERT ADVERT Credit: xQc via Twitch The bookies always win Furthermore, xQc also shared his gambling win/loss ratio which amounts to a disappointing 63,057 wins and 583,405 losses on the Stake website. It is often said that gamblers will only tell you about the stakes that they have won, and not their losses. So fair play to xQc for being so open. Furthermore, a wise man once told me that the only winners in gambling are the bookies. I’ve never been much of a gambler myself. However, despite this, YouTube ads are always attaching them to video game-related content. So even if you’re someone that stays away from the gambling scene, it seems to be overly exposed even in unrelated genres.ADVERT ADVERT Credit: Change.org Earlier this year, concerned gamers even started a petition calling for Twitch to issue a complete ban on gambling on its platform. At the time of writing, the petition is nearing its intended goal of 2,500 signatures.
