DOOM co-creator is developing a new First Person Shooter 20 July 2022 by Richard Breslin DOOM co-creator John Romero is developing a brand-new first-person shooter. Romero is also the co-founder of id Software. While his name might not be so prominent today with modern first-person shooters, John Romero is one of the most important video game developers of all time. Romero made his mark While not the originator of the first-person shooter genre, much like what Resident Evil did for survival horror after the likes of Sweet Home and Alone in the Dark, Wolfenstein, DOOM and Quake helped raise the bar of the FPS genre.ADVERT ADVERT The first-person shooter in question at this time has no name, and nor does it have a release window. However, it will be developed by Romero’s studio, Romero Games. Founded in 2015, Romero Games has only developed three games at the time of writing. Arguably the studio’s biggest success is the mobster strategy RPG, Empire of Sin. Unreal Engine 5 experience is required News of the new FPS was announced on RomeroGames.com, furthermore, the studio is also looking to hire new staff to help develop the game. The job advertisement states that any would-be employees will work on the “all-new FPS with an original, new IP.” Furthermore, the FPS will be developed using Unreal Engine 5 and those thinking of applying would need experience working with Epic Games‘ latest engine.ADVERT ADVERT Exciting news! We’re grateful for your interest, though,” read a post on Romero’s official website. “Due to the secrecy and advertised hiring efforts, we wouldn’t expect to hear from this project for many years.
