Annapurna and BlueTwelve’s dystopian adventure game was released on Tuesday and its feline protagonist has been grabbing the attention of players’ own pets. This has resulted in a steady stream of social media posts showing cats transfixed by the game being played on their owners’ TVs. One video even shows a cat reaching out to try and strike the cat on the screen, a potentially unsafe practice. Stray has become Annapurna’s biggest PC launch to date. On its release day the Steam version comfortably shattered Annapurna’s record for most concurrent users, which had previously been around 8,000 for Twelve Minutes but was eclipsed by Stray’s 62,963. It concludes: “Stray is a masterclass in environmental design, with one of the most engrossingly detailed game worlds we’ve explored. Like its protagonist it’s a little on the short side, but what’s here will stay with you for a long time. Essential.” Annapurna is set to host a product showcase on July 28, for which it has teased “reveals, announcements, and much more”.
