As spotted by GamingOnLinux, a new Steam Deck Booklet refers to follow-ups to Valve’s handheld, which was released earlier this year. The Steam Deck has proven extremely popular, with the company still fulfilling preorders at the time of writing. “Steam Deck represents the first in a new category of Steam handheld gaming PCs,” the booklet reads. “In the future, Valve will follow up on this product with improvements and iterations to hardware and software, bringing new versions of Steam Deck to market.” Steam Deck Launch TrailerSubscribe to VGC on YouTube The booklet also refers to the Steam Deck as a “multi-generational product line,” and claims that Valve will “support Steam Deck and SteamOS” well into the foreseeable future. If true, Steam Deck could buck the trend of Valve ending support for hardware support early on. The Steam Controller was released in 2015 alongside the Steam Machine. Steam Machines were largely unsupported following 2018 and Steam Controller was discontinued in 2019. Valve has also said that the compatibility layer developed for Steam Deck will be adopted by other platforms such as ChromeOS. The compatibility layer allows for games and applications that aren’t specifically designed for the Steam Deck to function. VGC’s recent review of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PC praised the Steam Deck performance as a “marvel”. It was recently discovered that Valve has quietly downgraded the SSD included with some Steam Deck models. While all Steam Deck 256GB and 512GB models initially came with a PCI express 3.0 x4 SSD, some now ship with a PCI express 3.0 x2 SSD instead. 1 Comment Related VGC Content Valve says Steam Deck can now be bought without a reservation4 days ago Sackboy A Big Adventure PC reveal trailer confirms October release date1 week ago A video showing Returnal’ s PC settings menu has seemingly leaked1 week ago Valve shows off Steam Deck protoypes without a D-Pad4 weeks ago Popular Now on VGC1 Harley Quinn voice actor criticises Chris Pratt Mario casting ‘ It should be Charles’ 2 Phil Spencer could be teasing Xbox s game streaming device in a new office photo3 Modern Warfare 2 will seemingly require a phone number like Overwatch 24 Interview How PlatinumGames is betting on Nintendo expertise to shape its future5 Platinum thinks hiring of Nintendo veteran can take the companies relationship to the next level More Video Game News35 Sony acquires a mobile studio while promising it won’ t ‘ diminish its commitment’ to playersSavage Game Studios is the first in the 'PlayStation Studios family' to focus on mobile1 month ago35 Comments US PlayStation shipments were reportedly up 400% last monthPS5 supply appears to be increasing as Christmas approaches1 hour ago Overwatch 2 servers down for some as Blizzard removes two heroes temporarilyThe game's rocky launch has caused much fan frustration1 hour ago Bungie warns over Destiny boss’ s ‘ extremely loud roar’ that’ s scaring playersThe developer has advised players to turn down their audio due to the bug1 month agoBy commenting on this article you agree to adhere to VGC’s community guidelines.
