By Pretty Honore Sep. 14 2022, Updated 11:49 p.m. ET Almost a decade ago, USA Networks introduced America to Todd Chrisley. Today, he and his family are still making headlines. The reality TV star and his wife, Julie Chrisley, found themselves in trouble with the law after they were accused of stealing millions of dollars by way of tax evasion, fraud, and conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud. The day after the verdict came down in the Chrisley case, the courts confirmed a date for Todd and Julie’s sentencing hearing. Previously, news outlets reported that the two would appear in court for sentencing on Oct. 6. Since then, the two have been remanded to their $3.4 million home in Nashville, Tenn. But on Sept. 14, fans received a major update on their sentencing hearing. A document obtained by PEOPLE confirms that the Chrisleys won't return to court until Nov. 21. However, there's a possibility that plans could change before then. In August of 2022, the couple filed a motion for a new trial on the basis that "the government presented and failed to correct false testimony from IRS Revenue Officer Betty Carter, who lied about the Chrisleys owing taxes or years when she knew no taxes were due."Article continues below advertisementSource: Getty Images Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley The document adds, "This testimony had the effect of falsely painting the Chrisleys as untruthful, likely to commit other forms of fraud, and evading the tax payments alleged in the indictment." If the couple is granted an appeal, they have a shot at redemption. And they certainly need it after their May 2022 trial.Article continues below advertisement ' Chrisley Knows Best' stars Todd and Julie Chrisley stood trial for tax fraud in May 2022
Todd and Julie's financial woes date all the way back to 2007 — when prosecutors say their alleged fraud scheme began — and didn’t end until 2022. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Annalise Peters, the couple is guilty of misrepresenting their monies in federal documents. “They made up documents and they lied through their teeth to get whatever they want, whenever they want it,” the Assistant U.S. Attorney asserted in court (per Us Weekly). And apparently, the 16 jurors agreed with her.Source: Getty Images Julie Chrisley, Todd ChrisleyArticle continues below advertisement The trial got even messier when Todd’s rumored beau — Mark Braddock — took the stand and confessed his knowledge of the couple’s crimes. And his testimony may have been the one that put the nail in the couple's coffin. According to him, Todd blew through millions of dollars in a years-long spending spree before he was caught. Three weeks after their trial kicked off, the jury delivered a verdict. Todd and Julie were found guilty of all the charges on Tuesday, June 7. In a statement, the Chrisleys’ lawyer said that his clients were “disappointed” in the verdict. But it's clear that their legal battle is far from over.AdvertisementMore from Distractify Todd Chrisley and His Wife, Julie Chrisley, Are Under House Arrest in Tennessee How Old Is the Cast of 'Chrisley Knows Best'?
