Dying Light 2 dev says Xbox Series S GPU holding us back from improvements The Loadout The Loadout Dying Light 2 dev says Xbox Series S GPU holding us back from improvements With players critical of Dying Light 2's performance on the Xbox Series S, the game's lead designer has taken to twitter to comment on complaints Kyle Wilson Published: Feb 7, 2022 11:59 ET Dying Light 2: Stay Human Dying Light 2 might be impressing fans on next-gen consoles, but its performance on the Xbox Series S leaves a lot to be desired, according to players. In response to fans calling for additional graphics options and performance improvements on the less powerful platform, Dying Light 2's lead designer, Tymon Smektała, shares details on what Techland is doing to combat these issues and expand options in the future. Techland has revealed that "various performance optimisations" will be implemented, but what does this mean for the wider performance issues faced by Xbox Series S players? Smektała suggests that the console is simply not powerful enough to handle Dying Light 2 and exploring Villedor at high frame rates. Despite the fact that there are several other open-world games that run at 60fps on the Xbox Series S, Smektała explains that Dying Light 2 is a special case. "Due to the density and verticality of its world, [Dying Light 2] streams more data" than its peers, he says. He also claims the Xbox Series S' GPU is "holding [Techland] back" from making performance improvements. We're fixing the coop issues first, the demand broke Sony/Microsoft/Epic sewers. Motion sickness will be addressed in the first upcoming patch. Fov + motion blur will be considered for the next. 30fps on Series S will be looked at, but the consoles GPU is holding us back. - Tymon Smektała (@smektalaTM) February 5, 2022 He does recognise that optimisation can be improved, but it looks like Dying Light 2 might just simply be too demanding to run any better on technically weaker platforms. Thankfully, it looks like Techland is working on other ways to make Dying Light 2 more playable on weaker platforms. Smektała has shared that additional graphics options, like FOV sliders and motion blur toggles, are being considered for future updates – however, the next major Dying Light 2 update is going to focus on squashing bugs. Smektała also says that "motion sickness will be addressed in the first upcoming patch" too. Dying Light 2 has only been out a handful of days, but Techland is already listening and responding to fans when it comes to in-game issues. With any luck, Raven Software will feel inspired by Dying Light 2's mention of a FOV slider – we know a few Warzone players have been asking for that.
