As you might already know, almost 100 short video clips from an early build of Rockstar Games' next Grand Theft Auto game surfaced online over the weekend – confirming quite a lot of long-standing rumours and giving fans an insight into what we can expect from the series' future. As expected, following this breach, Rockstar Games has issued a statement that confirms that "work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned". Taking to social media at around 06:10 PST / 09:10 EST / 14:10 BST on September 19, Rockstar Games issued the following statement: " We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto. At this time, we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects. " We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations." Rockstar Games goes on to say that it will introduce us, the world, to the next GTA game when it's ready and, to be honest, we can't wait – what we have seen from the leaks is very, very, exciting. This statement, though, is important as it confirms that what we saw was indeed from Grand Theft Auto 6. It's an admission of authenticity that we weren't expecting – even though we do know that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been in "active development" for some time. It's also important because it reaffirms that the GTA 6 release date shouldn't be affected. Of course, it's still going to be a little ways away, but its' development shouldn't be affected. Tom Henderson, long-time leaker, has also explained that it doesn't look like GTA 6's source code has been leaked alongside the footage – which was a major concern. Despite the leaks, it's clear that hopes are high when it comes to the next Grand Theft Auto game being one of the best PS5 games and best Xbox games – just like its' predecessor.
