Here is how it works in the new game and everything you need to know Joe Apsey Updated: Sep 21, 2022 14:47 ET Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 The Gunsmith has become the home of all the weapon customisation options in Call of Duty games. And, with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 that isn't set to change. This guide will cover the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Gunsmith and everything you need to know about how it works. From simply changing up your attachments to creating complex and unique weapon camos and designs, the Gunsmith has a lot to it. And, when you bolt on the different weapon blueprints you can earn in the game you can spend a lot of time tuning your weapons in Modern Warfare 2. Below, read our overview of everything we know about the Modern Warfare 2 Gunsmith and the new innovative attachment system. Modern Warfare 2 Gunsmith guide Modern Warfare 2's Gunsmith has been completely rebuilt with the idea that it is more realistic than ever before. Within the Gunsmith you have three key categories of customisation options: building your weapon's loadout, customising its look, and its progression. On top of that standard attachments: barrel, muzzle, grip, laser, ammunition, magazine, optic, stock, and grip, there is a brand new attachment. This new attachment is the Reciever. The Reciever is a new unlock on a weapon's progression path as you level it up. Once you reached the Receiver unlock in the weapon's progression path you will be able to use all of the attachments from another weapon in the same family. For example, if you hit weapon level 13 with the M4A1, you may unlock the Receiver for the M16. From there you can use all the attachments you have unlocked for the M16 on the M4A1. This can carry across between weapon types as well and is determined by whatever weapons are in a specific gun's family. The goal of this is to take away the grind of having to level up each new weapon to get all the attachments. It also better reflects how weapons work in real life according to Infinity Ward. In addition to Blueprints, Modern Warfare 2 is also introducing Weapon Vaults. These are a step above Blueprints and effectively break apart a weapon into its individual attachments. These individual attachments are then all themed with the same design or colour scheme. And, when unlocking a vault, the attachments for your weapon will all unlock automatically. This solves one of the main issues from previous games where attachments weren't themed around your weapon Blueprint. We don't yet know how Vaults will play into the experience though and how you will be able to earn them. And that covers everything about the Modern Warfare 2 Gunsmith right now.
